I am incredibly grateful to have been part of the "Awareness of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)" campaign. This initiative was a key component of our practical evaluation in the Pharmacotherapy of Endocrine and Renal Disorders course, allowing us to take our clinical knowledge directly to the community.
Clinical Education in Action
The campaign focused on educating the public about the rising prevalence and severe complications of CKD.
Critical Data: We highlighted that the prevalence of CKD is 13% among adults in Egypt, a figure that rises significantly to 30-40% among patients with Diabetes Mellitus.
Defining the Disease: We explained that CKD is characterized by kidney damage or an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of less than $60 \text{ mL/min/1.73 m}^2$ persisting for three months or more.
Managing Complications: Our discussions covered a wide range of CKD-related issues, including high blood pressure, proteinuria, anemia, and bone & mineral disorders.
Treatment Options: We provided guidance on non-pharmacological treatments and the critical final options for patients: dialysis and kidney transplantation.
A Year of Scientific Advocacy
This campaign represents another milestone in my final year as a Level 5 Clinical Pharmacy student, building upon a season of extensive research and leadership:
Research Excellence: This practical advocacy aligns with my Silver Medal-winning research on microbiota-based interventions for diabetes complications, where I explored how systemic health impacts renal outcomes.
Mentorship and Leadership: Participating in this campaign under the supervision of esteemed faculty members like Prof. Dr. Mohamed El Houseiny Shams and Dr. Mona M. El-Tamalawy is a hallmark of the 1st Place Ideal Student journey.
Strategic Outreach: Much like leading scientific research sessions for IVSA Mansoura, this campaign focused on simplifying complex clinical data to empower patients.
A Professional Legacy
Whether I am analyzing a chess board to secure 5th place in the MU Speed Chess Championship or designing a medical identity like CREATINFORGE, my goal is always to provide "Elegance in Every Touch" and clarity in every clinical interaction.
I want to extend my thanks to the campaign leader, Ahmed Ayman, and vice leader, Shaden Omar, for their coordination in making this awareness drive a success.
