Awareness Matters: Understanding Osteogenesis Imperfecta | Khaled Osama Yaseen

In a significant shift from his usual graphic design work, Khaled Osama Yaseen released an educational video in June 2020 dedicated to raising awareness about a rare medical condition. Created under the guidance of Dr. Akram Hammad, Head of the Orthopedic Department at Mansoura University Faculty of Medicine, the video aims to simplify complex medical information for the general public.

What is Osteogenesis Imperfecta?

Often referred to as "Brittle Bone Disease," Osteogenesis Imperfecta is a genetic disorder that goes far beyond simple bone fragility. In the video, Khaled explains several critical aspects of the condition:

  • Systemic Impact: While it is primarily known for affecting the bones, the disease can impact other vital organs and bodily systems over time.

  • High Risk: The condition is serious, with mortality rates approaching 20% of cases worldwide.

  • Physical Manifestations: Beyond bone fractures, patients may experience physical deformities, curvature of the spine, and issues related to height and weight.

  • Treatment Realities: There is currently no chemical "cure" for the genetic root of the disease. Management instead relies on painkillers, specialized medications, and surgical interventions to improve the quality of life.

A Call for Engagement

Khaled emphasizes that this video marks a new direction for his content. He expressed the immense effort that went into producing this educational piece, even noting the physical exhaustion of the process.

By combining digital communication skills with medical expertise, this project serves as a vital bridge between specialized science and public awareness.

"Hope you like the video... and wait for the next one." — Khaled Osama Yaseen
